Where do we fly into and should we rent a car?
The easiest place to fly into is Cancun. We are located about 1-1/2 hours south and have highway driving all the way. We highly recommend renting a car because it is very useful to visit the many sites and restaurants in the area. Casa 7 Cielo is 1 mile from the highway and the town of Tulum is approximately 6 miles away.

Is it safe to drink the water?
We provide purified bottled water for drinking, cooking and brushing your teeth. The water at Casa 7 Cielo can be used for both bathing and washing dishes.

Do the shops and restaurants take credit cards?
Very few of the restaurants or shops take credit cards in this area. Tulum has a bank with an ATM or you can exchange Traveler checks or cash for pesos. There are also many Cambio exchange stores that will change your money for you.

Is there an emergency phone number that we can give our family?
Yes. Our property manager has a land line phone and a cell phone that you can give to your family.

Should I bring my laptop?
This is your vacation, and a time to relax, but if you choose to bring your laptop, Casa 7 Cielo has recently installed wireless internet service that is accessed via satellite.

Will my cell phone work?
Mobile cell phone coverage is fairly good in the area. We recommend that you contact your provider before you leave to find out if you need to activate international cell service as well as the fees that are associated.

Why won't they bring me my bill?
It is customary in Mexican restaurants not to rush you, even if the restaurant is crowded, so they will not bring you the bill until you ask for it.  Saying "La cuenta, por favor"  or using the seemingly international hand motion of pretending to sign a check, will produce a bill.
 
Should I tip?
Yes!  Tipping is very important here.  Most service workers are paid very little and rely on tips to survive.  You also need to tip a wider array of people.  The guy who helps you back your car out and the kid that  bags your groceries makes no wages at all and relies on your tips to live.
 
Why can't I  flush?
The toilet paper must go in the wastebasket, not in the bowl.  Everyone here is on a septic system and some places have crazy plumbing that just can't take the papaer without clogging.  Even at first-world institutions like Wal-mart, you must use the basket.  The exception is the big multi-million dollar resorts, which have thier own plants, providing enough pressure to flush a Chihuahua.
